This ancient looking sadhu lived under a large statue of an elephant, one of a pair that stands at the gated entrance of the Jagdish Temple. Sadhus renounce material living and dedicate their lives to achieving moksa, the liberation of their soul through meditation. They accept alms in order to survive, mainly in the form of food or shelter. This spritely fellow didn’t turn down the rupees I offered him in return for taking his picture.
